Escape to the Jungle is a surface design collection, designed to fit both domestic and commercial interior spaces. It aims to explore scale, shape, and colour to envelope spaces in an abstract jungle. This project will allow me to explore abstract expressionism and photorealism and allow me to develop designs that encapsulate these art styles while also finding my own style.

The sole inspiration for this project is my mum, her desire to travel and her love of the jungle. When I was young my mum was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, she is now 9 years cancer free. When she was undergoing treatment, she would often use the jungle as a form of escapism in her mind – influencing the concept of this project.

The market level that I am aiming for within this project, is a mid-market level which allows the collection to be available and accessible to a wider consumer. Identifying artists and designers that produce large-scale murals for both domestic and commercial interior spaces will help inspire my work and understand how to use scale and design layout to fill a space.

I will identify the ways in which immersive sensory experiences can positively impact well-being, understanding how being surrounded by nature can have a healing impact on people, and also understanding colour theory and the significance colour can have on mood and well-being. Then being able to create a cohesive colour palette that will have a joyful impact on people as well as include colours that are synergetic with the natural environment of the jungle.
